There are a lot of mistakes in golf.
These five mistakes can cost you a good result at the tournament. Not only the amateurs, but also professionals make them. Learn from them.
- Impatience. Losing patience on the course means losing everything. An impatient game will make everything worse. Force will not ensure you a better score, everything must be done step by step. And most importantly, try to understand the logic of golf – some strokes are valuable and others are not. Accept this and life on the golf course will be easier for you.
- Aggression. Aggression is not always bad, but you have to know when to attack and when to hold back. After all, Jack Nicklaus himself opted for conservative strokes and lay-up shots instead of attempting risky shots. And his record in the number of career majors wins speaks for itself. If you go into a tournament with great confidence and expectations, try to slow down. Do not push ahead – aggression can knock you out of the game before you can say “bogey”.
- Strategy. Particularly amateurs do not prepare cautiously for their round on the golf course. It is precisely thanks to careful preparation that you can discover places where you can attack, and those where you have to be more careful. There is nothing wrong with playing it safe. But this can be done only when you know the course well and have your own game plan. Otherwise it is just a game of chance.
- Exaggeration. Lots of golfers, both the amateurs and professionals, try to play beyond their capabilities on the course. They exaggerate – and mostly they pay for it. You cannot play good strokes for a long time without the ability. Striving for heroic strokes on each hole is foolish. You will be under unnecessary pressure and instead of great shots you will end up making mistakes and fail.
- Advice. It happens very often – you are standing at the driving range before the tournament, you will fail a few practice shots, start discussing it with people who will try to advise you on what to do and how. That is wrong. Once you succumb and try what is suggested you will completely knock yourself off balance. A golden rule applies here: what works for one may not work for someone else. This is true even if a friend is advising you.
